How can smart EV charging support the energy transition?

Facing the climate emergency, France is moving toward an increasingly renewable electricity mix, with a growing share of solar and wind. These sources are intermittent, which raises a challenge: how do we adapt our consumption to more variable production?

At the same time, the electrification of end uses, particularly in transport, will sharply increase electricity demand. This creates an opportunity: shifting our usage patterns to consume at the right time, when production is abundant.

In this paper, available to download below, we look at:

  • Electricity mix trajectories through 2035 and 2050;
  • The potential of smart charging to smooth demand and ease pressure on the grid;
  • The economic benefits for the power system, and for the end user;
  • The technical, regulatory, economic and operational levers needed to make this transformation happen
